Strawberries
This was Freshfields’ first fresh produce crop from our Herefordshire fields and due to its success we have be able to grow and expand into our specialist crops.
Our Growing team carefully plan crop plantings, crop management and varietal choices to produce Herefordshire grown British strawberries within the UK main season from May through to October.
Working together with marketing groups and plant propagators we have developed a robust portfolio of varieties which ensure we can deliver exceptional quality, flavour, shelf life and commerciality.
All of our strawberries are produced under modern growing structures which protect our crops from the changeable British weather and offer our harvesting teams a safe and comfortable working environment.

Our strawberries are planted in February through to June in a raised substrate system in a product called coir (coconut husks) to enable us to control specific parameters of moisture and fertiliser availability to the plant. This helps to optimise yield, berry shape and flavour.
A raised tabletop system means we can grow a better quality berry for consumers while better presenting fruit to harvest staff, making their job more enjoyable.
To minimse the effects of field heat our berries are chilled within 60 minutes of harvesting before being delivered to a BRC accredited packhouse ready for distribution to customers across the country.
